There was no compass or sextant or even a watch to guide him and his crew of three on the 510- day, 30,000-mile journey that took them around the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn. Using his knowledge of geography. Captain Marvin, a masterful sailor, relied on the stars, water currents, his hands-on knowledge of machinery and his wits to guide them. On May 18,1984, to great fanfare and celebration. Creamer sailed triumphantly back to port in Cape May, New Jersey. He donated his extraordinarily detailed navigational logs and his vast collection of press clippings to Rowan University’s Campbell Library. Marvin Creamer is a 1943 graduate and retired faculty member of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).
